Former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett remembers receiving a text from New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees last year.

In October 2017, Barrett broke Brees' Big Ten record for career passing touchdowns in a Buckeyes win over Penn State, and he said Brees sent him a congratulatory text that included some quip related to Purdue, Brees' alma mater.

Barrett, who finished his collegiate career with 104 touchdown passes compared to Brees' 90, said he hasn't heard from Brees since signing with the Saints as an undrafted rookie, but it's no matter. With Barrett so focused on learning the Saints' complex offense, he's barely even thinking about the possibility of playing behind the future Hall of Famer.

The New Orleans Saints have had success with undrafted free agents in the recent past. The most recent success has most recently come in the form of special teams additions. Deonte Harty and Rashid Shaheed initially were return specialists before integrating into the offense. Wil Lutz and J.T. Gray were also valuable special teams assets.

Though unproven, the Saints’ 2024 UDFA class is highly rated. The star of that class is Colorado State tight end Dallin Holker. It’s no surprise that Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler believes Holker has the best chance to make the Saints roster of all...

The New Orleans Saints have been looking for their quarterback of the future since Drew Brees. Injuries to Jameis Winston robbed of a proper chance to prove his case, positive or negative. New Orleans abandoned the bargain contract quarterback route and traded for Derek Carr last offseason.

Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon broke down the quarterback situation of every team. There’s no high profile veteran quarterback, so each squad has solidified. Gagnon used age, trajectory, experience, contract, injury history and the state of the team to come up with a quick summation to divide each team...

It’s time to get back on the football field.

Rookie minicamp is this weekend throughout the NFL and for the New Orleans Saints, it’s an opportunity to see your draft picks and UDFAs in action.

Here’s a few points to keep an eye on for the weekend:

There’s going to be a ton of pressure on the offensive line prospect that the Saints drafted 14th overall and now gave a fully guaranteed deal before he steps foot on the field. It appears that Ryan Ramcyzk will be good to go, but Fuaga will have to step in at left tackle while Trevor Penning could move inside to left guard. So, it’ll be...

With the start of the New Orleans Saints 2024 minicamp just about a month away, we’re going to do an early projection of what the roster could potentially look like come week one. It is very likely that the team will be adding players here and there before the start of the season, but I believe this provides a good idea on where this team stands with the personnel they have at the moment.

Let’s get to it.

Quarterback (3): Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler

Running Back (4): Alvin Kamara, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Zander Horvath

Wide Receiver (6): Chris Olave, Rashid...

Rookie New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler is one of 40 NFL rookies that has been invited to 2024 NFLPA Rookie Premiere. The event will take place in Los Angeles from May 16-19.

The Rookie Premiere, according to Sportskeeda, is a program organized by the NFLPA to acquire corporate brands and help league sponsors get to know some of the most marketable draft picks. The event allows NFL partners “unparalleled access” to up-and-coming stars.

On a surface level, there are multiple Saints’ draft picks that might be more deserving than Rattler; however, the event invites appear to...

The New Orleans Saints have signed their first-round draft choice, tackle Taliese Fuaga, to a four-year contract.

The club announced the agreement on Thursday, a day before the opening of the Saints' three-day rookie camp.

The 6-foot-6, 324-pound Fuaga's prospects for playing immediately — if not starting — are high. Andrus Peat, who played both guard and tackle last season, left in free agency for Las Vegas. Meanwhile, James Hurst, who also played guard and tackle, retired.

Adding to the Saints' precarious situation up front is the fact that starting right tackle Ryan Ramczyk had...

The New Orleans Saints kick off their three-day rookie minicamp on Friday, and it’s an important day for a lot of players. Not just the draft picks and rookie free agents wearing their new helmets and team colors for the first time, but for many tryout players for whom this might be their last opportunity in the NFL. It’s vital that they make a strong impression in hopes of catching on with the Saints for training camp.

That’s what Clay Harbor experienced back in 2017, his final year in the NFL. The former Saints tight end tried out at rookie minicamp that year after playing for four...

More free agents the New Orleans Saints could target

Before the draft, I wrote that the New Orleans Saints could target free agents Justin Simmons, Dalton Risner, and Mekhi Becton. Besides Becton, who was already picked up, the Saints could still target these players, but more are still available that would help.

The last piece to the Saints defensive back room is one more safety. Justin Simmons is the number one option, but Kearse would be a great second choice if that does not happen. The former Dallas Cowboys safety was a reluctant cut this offseason. The team had a lot of big contracts, and their safety room was already very full. This...

All of the players invited to try out at Saints rookie minicamp

Friday brings a big opportunity for a lot of players — the New Orleans Saints will join half the NFL in starting their rookie minicamp, giving dozens of first-year pros and journeymen free agents a chance to try out and earn a spot on the training camp roster. While this these three days of practices are emphasized on the Saints’ draft picks and rookie free agent signings, there will also be some veteran free agents trying out in hopes of continuing their careers.

And we should expect the Saints to sign a couple of players afterwards. They always find two or three players in these tryouts who stick around for training camp, and occasionally one of them makes the practice squad or even the 53-man roster when the season starts. It’s a tough path to take to the NFL, and they’ll all be working hard to go the distance.

We’ll keep an eye out for the Saints announcing their final list of rookie camp tryouts, but for now here are all of the names that have been reported:
