Here's what all happened at Saints OTAs on Wednesday, and it was a lot.

By Joey Aliberti - Gulflive.com

Both of the New Orleans Saints’ biggest offseason additions to the defense are dealing with injuries. Defensive end Chase Young had surgery on a neck injury that he dealt with throughout the 2023 season while rookie cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry suffered a Jones fracture in his foot.

Saints coach Dennis Allen provided updates on the latest for both players Wednesday.

Chase Young

“He’s been here every day, and he’s in all the meetings. When we’re out here at practice he’s in doing the rehab and the things he’s capable of doing. I see a guy that’s highly motivated to have a great year. I think to this point he’s been on track in terms of the healing process. We’ll probably have another update in terms of where he’s at here in a week or two. Probably will paint a little bit clearer picture as to when we think he might be back. But he’s doing everything that we’re asking him to do, he’s highly motivated, he wants to be a part of this organization, wants to be a part of this team.”

Everyone knows that Chris Olave is a good player, but the New Orleans Saints wide receiver has higher ambitions for Year 3 in black and gold. The installation of a new offense under Klint Kubiak opens the door for him to make more plays and be deployed more creatively.

But all a play caller can do is put him in position. At that point it’s on Olave to catch the ball and make a move with the defense crashing down on him. So where is he looking to improve after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons?

“Really everywhere,” Olave told NFL Network’s Judy Battista on Wednesday, via NFL.com’s Eric...

Saints have two draft classes rank in the top 10 of the century

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz recently ranked the 12 best draft classes of the 21st century, and the New Orleans Saints made the list twice. Not only is New Orleans on the list twice, they found themselves in the top 10 both times. Their iconic 2017 and 2006 draft classes come in at tenth and first on ESPN’s list.

The 2017 class was the first to make an appearance at tenth overall. The Saints nailed all six of their selections in the first three rounds and those players became foundational pieces for the new era of the New Orleans Saints. Running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Marshon Lattimore...

Dennis Allen expects Marshon Lattimore at Saints mandatory minicamp

Trade speculation surrounding Marshon Lattimore won’t be quieting down, at least not until Sept. 1. That’s the deadline for the New Orleans Saints to trade him, but it seems increasingly unlikely that they’ll get an offer worth considering. And with offseason workouts shifting from voluntary participation to mandatory requirements, with players subject to fines for not showing, all eyes will be on Lattimore. A holdout would be portentous.

It doesn’t sound like that’s in the works. Head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday that he’s looking forward to full attendance at mandatory minicamp...

Saints coach Dennis Allen sees a 'highly motivated' player in Chase Young

We’ve got a positive update on Chase Young. The New Orleans Saints defensive end underwent surgery in March to relieve pressure on a herniated disc in his neck, and he was said to be looking at a four- to six-month recovery. So while there’s a possibility he could return in time for the start of training camp, it’s more realistic to expect him to miss some time over the summer.

But Dennis Allen said that, so far, Young’s progress has been good. He commended the Saints’ big free agent signing for working hard to get healthy and pick up his new playbook during the spring.

“Look, he’s been...

Was Kool-Aid McKinstry or Chase Young the Saints' most dangerous pickup?

Kool-Aid McKinstry was labeled the New Orleans Saints’ most dangerous addition this offseason by Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler. This combined with the Saints secondary being considered the strength of the team brings a draft day question back to the forefront. Where does the second round cornerback fit in 2024?

The other option for the Saints’ most dangerous addition is Chase Young and arguably would have been a better fit. Health permitting, Young has a ready-made role on the team. He was brought in to a defensive line room that struggled to rush the passer. He was the most necessary...

Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is set to return to New Orleans for a Week 7 matchup. This will be Payton’s first time returning to New Orleans since his departure in 2022.

Payton would join the Denver Broncos just a year after his departure in a trade that awarded the Saints with a first-round pick. Payton went 8-9 with the Broncos in 2023, a three-win improvement from the season before. New Orleans has gone 16-18 under head coach Dennis Allen who replaced Sean Payton since his departure.

Defensive end Cameron Jordan was asked about the homecoming game for Payton to...

We’re on to Week 15 in our New Orleans Saints game previews, when the Washington Commanders will be making a visit to the Caesars Superdome. This is another game the Saints are early favorites to win, but there might not be a team more difficult to project than Washington in 2024.

There are very few commonalities between the current Commanders team and the squad that went 4-13 last season. Washington hired a new coaching staff led by former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn and drafted a new quarterback in Jayden Daniels. They were top spenders in free agency, targeting players like...
