Must have missed this:

Here is a little synopsis from the article, also season 2 has already begun production:

Marvel Studios and Disney+ describes the series as follows, "Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto comes in and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister comes in to try to end the X-Men once and for all."

Rogue, Gambit, Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Gray, Beast, Cable, Bishop, Forge, and Morph are coming back to X-Men '97 and will accompanied by Nightcrawler and Sunspot. X-Men '97 follows Magneto leading the X-Men in Professor Xavier's absence. Mister Sinister will serve as the main villain in the series. "Sinister is back in a big way," DeMayo revealed. "He is going to be holding the X-Men's fate in the fire and telling humanity...to face the future."

X-Men '97 is now set to be released sometime in early 2024.

As long as they do Scott Summers right, I'm in. Favorite comic character for me hands down. The trailer looks like they do, which is good. If it turns into the Wolverine hour, I'm out.

When Gambit charges Wolverine's claws I was done for the day

I turned on the original series today

Interesting notes from a SR article:

Serving as the head writer of X-Men '97 is Beau DeMayo, with Eric and Julia Lewald - former showrunners of X-Men: The Animated Series - serving as consultants on the series. Thankfully Disney and Marvel understand the potential in X-Men '97, and they're taking a thorough and respectful approach. As was also reported by The Direct, lead X-Men '97 writer Beau DeMayo was incredibly strict with who he allowed in the writers room. DeMayo would only work with fans of the original 90's X-Men cartoon on the reboot, and X-Men '97 has been crafted by a team of creatives who all understand that (in DeMayo's words) "You have to respect the work before you're allowed to add to its legacy."

For those introduced to the X-Men: The Animated Series as a beloved Saturday morning cartoon but don't follow current MCU trends, X-Men '97 was confirmed back in November 2021. The X-Men cartoon reboot was announced alongside other Disney+ Marvel properties, such as Spider-Man: Freshman Year, What If...? season 2, and Marvel Zombies. Hints at an X-Men animated series reboot had been interwoven throughout other MCU properties, foreshadowing the sequel series.

For example, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Patrick Stewart appeared as Professor Charles Xavier, but this time dressed up as his animated counterpart — with a green suit and a yellow hoverchair. What makes it even more obvious is that the X-Men: The Animated Series theme music plays in the background. In addition, the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel sees a scene in which Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) finds out that her powers come from a genetic mutation in her DNA, and the X-Men: The Animated Series theme plays again.

For now, audiences who want to catch up on the original show can stream X-Men: The Animated Series on Disney+. At its peak, X-Men: The Animated Series drew 23 million viewers to television screens. Considering the hype surrounding X-Men '97, the new show seems ready to surpass the original's success.

X-Men '97 won't be a reboot, but will instead be a direct sequel to the finale of the classic '90s cartoon. Notably, the X-Men: The Animated Series ending sees Professor X being taken to the Shi'ar Empire for medical treatment, which means that the group's leader in X-Men '97 will be Magneto and/or Cyclops. Though this didn't sit well with some fans and even Magneto himself, Professor X himself convinced a reluctant Magneto to take on this leadership role. This presents a unique dynamic for X-Men '97 to flesh out - one that hasn't been fully explored in the live-action X-Men movies.

Wolverine sort of gives the X-Men that edge, that "nastiness", the comic book trope of the savage who has to or is forced to walk the straight line. Logan/Weapon X/Wolverine gives them an extra aura, that guy who will ask tough questions or call out another X-Men's stupidity. Wolverine doesn't suffer fools gladly because in his long, mostly patched-work memoried life, he's worked with extremely brutal, efficient, and very violent individuals like Deadpool, Mystique, Saber-tooth, so Xavier can't bullshirt or order Logan around like he can Summers. Because, IMHO, Xavier sort of suspects or believes Wolverine's past may have something to do with one of the X-Men's core missions, and that's the history of federal government knowing about the existence of mutants far earlier then they've admitted and experimentation on mutants like Wolverine.

Also, look at how Xavier talks to and reasons with Logan in the comic-books, TV series, and movies, he talks to him like a professional, not some young, impulsive, irrational hot-headed mutant who hasn't lived at all.

The Original Series did have an episode dedicated to him, but with the success of Noah Hawley's X-Men-related, FX TV series Legion, I wonder if X-Men 97 will focus on his character a bit more considering Legion is Charles Xavier's son.
