Inflation here? gas/grocery prices just continue to climb (2 Viewers)

You got a grand, the corporations got hundreds of billions and the government got trillions. Not a single one of them would have really caused inflation. All three of them at a time where the supply chain got crunched, that's another story.

I only mentioned the checks because they are being used as political rhetoric and as all rhetoric goes, it's inaccurate and the whole part is made up of half lies and half truths.
Yea I'm being a bit jaded with that comment - the 2008 bail outs is more what I'm thinking of though, not more recent events.

This. I think it's a race to see which comes first:

1) Unions find a way to thread their way through "free trade" agreements and dictatorial governments to organize worldwide so as to MAKE corporations and government-controlled economies care;

2) Populist movements around the world lead to trustbusting;

3) Populist movements around the world lead to autocrats which lead to dictators...and then the dictators give the populists a warped government-controlled version of the "socialism" they so loudly fear;

4) Populist movements around the world lead to regional wars which lead to world war.

it will be either 3 or 4. Or maybe both 3 and 4. It feels like that is how the global chess board is set up right now.

We are unquestionably on the precipice of wild sheet popping off.

Yes ive seen a couple of those as well.. ya gotta do an adams apple check.. or , failing that- a package check.. again, this is all second-hand information, of course…………………………………..

Also, apologies for being so dense today- but who is Stu ?

Hangover II

I think this as well. It doesn't seem like any of this is sustainable.

It isn't. You can't have a functional society where the sole motivating factor is limitless wealth acquisition. It will fail spectacularly.

To be fair the 2008 bailouts were paid back with a small net profit to the Treasury.. Which is not usually the case for massive bailouts.

I was very skeptical of TARP at the time but it was in hindsight a very necessary and effective device.

I am now confused about what the word means.

Shrinkflation clearly means "move along, nothing to see here"
Now run along like a good consumer and check the details in the websites of every product you ever plan on purchasing.
Seems like it would be easier for them to just leave it alone and jack the price accordingly.

Some of the break down of numbers from the story:

Percentage increases:

Ground Chuck :32% increase
Cooking Oil: 75% increase
White onions: 430% increase(not a typo)
Beans: 135% increase
Rice: 67% increase
Tomatoes: 80% increase
Corn: 130%
Limes: 100%

This story is a good example of the gulf between actual inflation and what gets reported.

Man, those numbers are outrageous.
