Saints sign Chase Young to 1-year deal up to 13M (2.7M base, 1.86M signing, 450K workout, 7.99M total gameday roster bonus) (1 Viewer)

I think this is starting to become the ultimate “gift and curse” byproduct with the rising salary cap. Teams are going to become more and more reluctant as time passes to give out big money long term deals. They will also become more and more reluctant to see through the long term deals they DO agree to.

That, and the QBs are going to gobble up more and more of the cash as well.

Something to keep an eye on as the cap rises and teams are forced to pay out absurd amounts of cash to marginal players.

More and more of those marginal players are going to find themselves on the couch in favor of cheap rookies.
I think it's a two-way street. Players aren't going to sign multi years without multiple years of guarantees, and teams aren't giving future guarantees to non-premium free agents.

If you sign a three year deal with no guarantees past the first year, the team gets all the power. They can cut you for any reason after year one, or keep you if you are playing at a level that exceeds the contract.

Obviously, if a team gives guarantees to a player, the power shifts in the other direction, and in a worst case scenario you're paying someone $37m to start for another team.

Interesting that there is no injury waiver for the preexisting neck injury. They must be comfortable with this not being a significant injury.
Well, it already wasn't significant enough to keep him from playing last season, so it makes sense that they took that approach.

Boom! LFG! Dude was considered a generational talent coming into the league. He got injured and was on a train wreck of a team. Went to a SB team as a rental. Washington is the only team that has to deal with him being a perceived bust. Now he's a talented player on a new team. LFG!
Couldn’t do anything lining up across from Bosa. So not real excited. But not a lot of risk either.

For the record, I don't take it particularly seriously. Players say that about coaches. It's in their DNA. But, I do think it shows that the perspective of DA among NFL players may not fit the narrative around here about him being two soft on players and being a "beta male." Certainly some guys, like MT, have issues with DA, but I think a lot of that comes from not winning. Winning solves everything as far as culture and accountability.
Lol it's been proven multiple times that the fan perspective of Allen does not match the lockerroom perspective of him. Everyone thinks they can identify beta/alpha etc its a bunch of hogwash. I believe in Paternal/Maternal influences and both have their positives/negatives but one isn't better than the other, they just need to be complimented correctly.
This is solid language, they know they're gambling and then basically took the insurance when they saw the Ace was the top card. I still think Foskey will surprise and this will end up being a moot point and they won't be any worse for wear.

So if I’m reading the contract information correctly, he only gets his per game bonus if he’s active that week. So say he somehow not ready for week 1 because of his neck. He will be inactive and he won’t get his bonus that week. That sounds like a clause for pre-existing neck injury even though it’s not specifically stated that way.

I guess what those tweets mean is if the surgery/procedure goes horribly wrong and he can’t play this year we can’t cut him to avoid the contract but in that case we should still have the option of putting him on IR and avoiding the 7.99m bonus for being active on gamedays.

It's basically an incentive for him to be motivated to get back by Week 1 at the earliest. They aren't as dumb as we think they are, and they know they're dealing with a guy who's displayed questionable motivation/effort. So, they dangled a carrot in front of him, it's smart. They are betting on his upside more than anything.

I mean, it's facts. But hey, different strokes and all that. :9:

Just proved my point, I won't argue the facts....but in many instances, facts without context are useless.....prime example.....

Fact you stated - Carr's 1st year as a starter here (to excuse away his poor start and inconsistent play).....

Fact I stated - 2 of the QB's in the division on teams we absolutely needed to beat the 1st time around....both 1st year starters, one basically a rookie (2nd year player, he had 4 starts his rookie year).....

Those teams we lost to when we desperately needed wins were in the same boat as we were with Carr......so your statement of fact (used as an excuse) doesn't really add up.....
Some people are determined to be miserable.

And some folks don't seem to mind going back to the days of mediocrity or worse.....whilst they make up a myriad of utter BS excuses as to why this team has regressed since DA has become the HC.....

Because I am a Saints fan, and DA isn't going anywhere I'm hoping to be proven dead wrong about DA this upcoming season, but he has shown zero signs of being a competent HC, IMO......

I'm a lot less miserable now that the Chase Young contract has been vetted thoroughly.....somewhat low risk, high reward possibly.....pretty good deal.....
