Son is starting welding school next month. He does pretty much everything with his phone but I'm kinda wondering if a cheap laptop won't come in handy.
The problem is what's minimum to be useful? I'm not sure he needs $1000 laptop but at the same time we bought our daughter an hp stream a few years ago that pretty much immediately ran out of storage so now it just sits. Anything in the $500ish range worth the money?

Do you have a costco membership? I did a quick look, and this one is pretty decent and under $500 https://www.costco.com/acer-aspire-...---1080p---windows-11.product.4000055208.html

here is a review if interested (it mentions bloatware, but that can be uninstalled) https://www.pcworld.com/article/1358891/acer-aspire-vero-14-review-from-trash-to-treasure.html

otherwise here are things to look for:

- 16Gb ram minimum. A lot of laptops these days have RAM that is soldered directly on board, and not upgradeable.

- PCIe SSD
