After a solid rookie campaign, continued development from Jordan Howden would further strengthen an outstanding Saints secondary.

By Bob Rose - Saints News Network | SI

The New Orleans Saints got a pleasant surprise from S Jordan Howden, a fifth-round choice in the 2023 NFL Draft. As the 11th pick of the fifth round and the 146th overall selection, it was hoped that Howden could contribute on special teams and possibly add some depth to the secondary.

In five years at the University of Minnesota, Howden had four interceptions, broke up 20 passes, and had 5.5 tackles for loss among 240 total stops. His senior season was the most productive with two interceptions, five throws broken up, and 3.5 stops for loss with 40 solo tackles.

A solid preseason and training camp easily earned Howden a spot on the active roster last season. As expected, he'd only see action on special teams in the first two weeks of the regular season. However, a suspension to veteran S Marcus Maye earned Howden his first career start in Week 3.

Maye returned to the starting lineup after his three-game suspension. However, Howden had played well enough to remain a part of several defensive backfield packages. When Maye missed the last six games of the year with an injury, the Saints had no drop-off with the rookie. Howden returning to the starting lineup. ...

Saints' worst nightmare in 2024 feels far from unlikely

Could this be the year Dennis Allen gets the New Orleans Saints out of their funk? Or will they be find themselves in another waking nightmare? Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon described nightmare scenarios for each team in 2024, summing them up into one sentence. The New Orleans Saints’ nightmare comes in the form of an all-too-familiar outcome:

This is the place the Saints have rested in the Dennis Allen era. Moving into Year 3 of this era, it can’t be accepted any longer. The reason this is such a nightmare is that outcome could lead to New Orleans keeping a coaching staff full of...

The NFL revealed the national preseason TV schedule, and New Orleans Saints’ Week 2 game at the San Francisco 49ers is one of just five nationally-televised preseason games. The Saints have known their preseason opponents, and fans outside of the area will be able to catch this game live. The majority of preseason games are aired locally and aired on NFL Network at a later time.

This showdown follows a week of joint practices between the two teams. The Saints will hold training camp at Irvine in Southern California this year, so the travel to Santa Clara will be significantly lowered in...

CSC Poll Results: Which offensive player is most likely to have a career season?

In this week’s CSC poll question, we asked which of the below statistical accomplishments on offense is most likely:

With 47.1% of the 306 total votes, wide receiver Chris Olave having a 1,300+ yard season was your winner. Olave has gone for 1,000+ yards each of his first two seasons, but a 1,300-yard season would be by far his best year. If Olave were to reach that mark it would be the first such season for the Saints since Michael Thomas in 2019, and only the 7th 1,300-yard season in team history. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is no stranger to that milestone however, as last...

B/R says the Saints are a perfect fit for David Bakhtiari

Former Green Bay Packers All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari remains on the free agent market, and Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox linked Bakhtiari to the New Orleans Saints in what he says would be a perfect marriage. Bakhtiari was once a consistent member of the All-Pro team year in and year out. He was the only offensive tackle to make All-Pro every year from 2016 to 2020.

Unfortunately, injuries derailed what once appeared to be a promising Hall of Fame career. The Saints have seen that story before. A torn ACL on Dec. 27, 2020 left a permanent impact on Bakhtiari’s left knee and he...

With the New Orleans Saints having one of the oldest rosters in the league, the development of young players is crucial to the team’s future success. Either through the NFL Draft or free agency, New Orleans has added young and promising talent to the roster with the hope they can take the next step and be crucial pieces to the team’s future success.

The Saints have been seeking to improve at pass rush for some seasons and continued to struggle in that department in 2023. New Orleans has used the draft as their source for defensive linemen in the past and has failed to get production from...

With the news of Justin Jefferson getting the largest wide receiver deal in NFL history, how does that reset the market for the New Orleans Saints star wideout, who has two years remaining on his rookie deal.

Isaiah Foskey was drafted in the second round last year, but didn’t see the field much due to injuries and depth. Now in year two, the Black and Gold want to see the Notre Dame product take off.

With a new system and new pieces, it’s easy to get excited. But here are some realistic expectations for the offense in 2024.

We’re continuing to count down the days until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2024 season in September, and with 93 days left to go we’re highlighting the current owner of the No. 93 jersey: Nathan Shepherd. The Saints signed the veteran defensive tackle last offseason after he started his career with the New York Jets, and he enjoyed some success in his first year wearing black and gold. Let’s get to know him a little better:

Shepherd played a career-high 594 snaps last year, also setting new personal-bests in sacks (3.5), tackles (50), and quarterback pressures (23). He’s a good...

2024 Saints game previews: Week 17 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

You can bet Derek Carr has this date circled on his calendar. The New Orleans Saints will host his old Las Vegas Raiders team for their penultimate matchup in 2024, giving Carr a great opportunity for payback on the team that cast him aside.

Of course this isn’t the same Raiders team that Carr played for. Antonio Pierce replaced Josh McDaniels as head coach, and Luke Getsy was hired as their offensive coordinator this spring (having also been pursued by the Saints). Their quarterback competition is pitting Gardner Minshew against Aidan O’Connell, who chose to give up Carr’s old No. 4...

93 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 93

  • News source: John Sigler
There haven’t been many New Orleans Saints players to wear the No. 93 jersey — but those who have put it on have often made an impact. We’re counting down the days until the Saints open up their 2024 season against the Carolina Panthers by reflecting on all of the players who have worn the corresponding day’s jersey number.

Today, that group includes some of the best defensive linemen in team history — guys like Wayne Martin, Darren Howard, and David Onyemata. Not to mention one of the Rob Ninkovich, the one who got away from the Saints’ 2006 draft class to develop into a fan-favorite with the New England Patriots. Junior Galette had some great years with the Saints before injuries and poor off-field decisions ended his career.

With 93 days to go until the 2024 season kicks off, here’s the full list of players to wear No. 93 with the Saints (via
