Here's what all happened at Saints OTAs on Wednesday, and it was a lot.

By Joey Aliberti - Gulflive.com

Both of the New Orleans Saints’ biggest offseason additions to the defense are dealing with injuries. Defensive end Chase Young had surgery on a neck injury that he dealt with throughout the 2023 season while rookie cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry suffered a Jones fracture in his foot.

Saints coach Dennis Allen provided updates on the latest for both players Wednesday.

Chase Young

“He’s been here every day, and he’s in all the meetings. When we’re out here at practice he’s in doing the rehab and the things he’s capable of doing. I see a guy that’s highly motivated to have a great year. I think to this point he’s been on track in terms of the healing process. We’ll probably have another update in terms of where he’s at here in a week or two. Probably will paint a little bit clearer picture as to when we think he might be back. But he’s doing everything that we’re asking him to do, he’s highly motivated, he wants to be a part of this organization, wants to be a part of this team.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported back in March that the neck injury was expected to sideline Young “into training camp,” and he’s expected back before the start of the season. Young signed a one-year, $13 million deal with New Orleans in March. ...

Dennis Allen ranked 32nd among NFL's 32 head coaches

Yikes. Dennis Allen has a lot to prove in 2024, but some observers (and some New Orleans Saints fans) are already prepared for the coach to go. Touchdown Wire’s Jarrett Bailey ranked Allen 32nd among the NFL’s 32 head coaches, arguing that while new hires are unknown quantities, we’ve seen enough to know Allen isn’t the right man for the job.

Here’s why Bailey ranked Allen last among his peers:

It’s tough to argue with that evaluation. The Saints have given Allen everything he’s asked for — his own play caller and position coaches, his $150 million quarterback, and his own draft picks...

Realistic expectations for the Saints 2024 offense

The New Orleans Saints are going to have a brand-new offensive scheme in 2024. After 15 seasons of Pete Carmichael as offensive coordinator, the Saints have made a change, hiring former San Fransisco 49ers Passing Game Coordinator, Klint Kubiak, as their newest OC.

Kubiak has a long history with the game of football. His father Gary was a Super Bowl winning Head Coach, so he grew up around the game. After playing safety at Colorado State, Klint took a job at Texas A&M as the offensive quality control coach and graduate assistant. From there, he moved to his first NFL job with the...

How the wide receiver market will effect the Saints and Chris Olave

This week, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson signed a contract extension and became the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. The final terms of the contract are a four-year deal worth $140 million dollars. A contract like this has the power to reset what the league believes wide receivers are worth. For the New Orleans Saints, a contract worth the amount Justin Jefferson received could be concerning. Chris Olave will be a free agent in 2027, which is far in the future, but the Saints will want to secure their number-one wide receiver on a long-term deal, but it won’t be easy...

Thirteen former New Orleans Saints were listed on the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame ballot and Saints Hall of Famer Wayne Martin was one of the players listed.

Martin was a defensive end for the University of Arkansas for four years and was a significant part of their history, helping them win the Southwest conference in 1988. He has the most sacks in school history, with 25.5. Martin also ranks fourth all-time is tackles for loss, with 37.

1988 was the best season of his college career by far. Not only was he an SWC champion, but was also a consensus all-American, first team...

Saints pick their quarterback of the future in this 2025 mock draft

Step aside, Derek Carr (plus Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler). This 2025 NFL mock draft has the New Orleans Saints spending a first-round pick on a new quarterback: Miami Hurricanes senior transfer Cameron Ward, formerly of the Washington State Cougars. That’s the choice Draft Wire’s Curt Popejoy made for the Saints, who slotted in at No. 11 using the latest projected standings.

Ward’s name has been connected to the Saints for a few years now. He was linked to New Orleans in a midseason mock draft back in 2022, though he ultimately stayed in school. Wazzu went 5-7 last year, and Ward...

NEW ORLEANS — The Saints wrap up organized team activities this week and most veterans have attended the voluntary workouts. Some vets are missing, like running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Marshon Lattimore, but Dennis Allen said he expects full attendance for the three-day mandatory minicamp starting next week.

Allen said wide receiver Chris Olave wore a red non-contact jersey during team drills because he tweaked his shoulder in the weight room. He still made plays, including a deep reception in a drill we weren't allowed to shoot.

Olave is the clear cut No. 1 wideout this year...

Countdown to Kickoff, Day 94: Cameron Jordan is the Saints Player of the Day

  • News source: John Sigler

There are 94 days to go until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2024 season with the Carolina Panthers, which means Cameron Jordan — the current owner of the No. 94 jersey — is our Saints Player of the Day. We’re counting down to kickoff by highlighting each player in the corresponding jersey number until Sept. 8.

Jordan is coming off of a down year, which may feel inevitable this late in his career. But before we get to his goals for 2024, let’s reflect on the road that brought him here:

Jordan is the Saints’ official all-time sacks leader (with 117.5 of them) but he only had two...

2024 Saints game previews: Week 16 at Green Bay Packers

Every game is important, but the stakes get higher in December. And that’s when the New Orleans Saints have a pivotal road game with the Green Bay Packers. They’ll make the trip for what may be a snowy night game at Lambeau Field in Week 16, and it’s a must-win if they want to be part of the playoff picture.

The Saints nearly got it done last season against a Packers team that isn’t looking much different a year later. New Orleans took a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter but fell apart once Derek Carr left the game with an injury. Dennis Allen’s defense gave up 18 points and Jameis...

94 days until Saints season opener: Every player to wear No. 94

Our countdown to the start of the New Orleans Saints’ 2024 season continues with Day 94, which means we’re looking back at every player to wear that jersey number for the Saints.

No. 94, of course, belongs to Cameron Jordan. And he’s worn it a long time — he’s a 14-year pro. But he wasn’t the first player to put it on. He’s the latest great Saints defender to wear it, following in the footsteps of guys like Jim Wilks (who appeared in 187 games with the Saints, including the playoffs), Joe Johnson (a two-time Pro Bowler and the 2000 Comeback Player of the Year), and Charles Grant (who earned a championship ring for his efforts in Super Bowl XLIV).

With 94 days to go until the 2024 season kickoffs, here’s the full list of players to wear No. 94 with the Saints (via

Chris Olave planning to make a big leap in 2024 as Saints' WR1

Everyone knows that Chris Olave is a good player, but the New Orleans Saints wide receiver has higher ambitions for Year 3 in black and gold. The installation of a new offense under Klint Kubiak opens the door for him to make more plays and be deployed more creatively.

But all a play caller can do is put him in position. At that point it’s on Olave to catch the ball and make a move with the defense crashing down on him. So where is he looking to improve after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons?

“Really everywhere,” Olave told NFL Network’s Judy Battista on Wednesday, via NFL.com’s Eric...

Saints have two draft classes rank in the top 10 of the century

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz recently ranked the 12 best draft classes of the 21st century, and the New Orleans Saints made the list twice. Not only is New Orleans on the list twice, they found themselves in the top 10 both times. Their iconic 2017 and 2006 draft classes come in at tenth and first on ESPN’s list.

The 2017 class was the first to make an appearance at tenth overall. The Saints nailed all six of their selections in the first three rounds and those players became foundational pieces for the new era of the New Orleans Saints. Running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Marshon Lattimore...
