Saints Ian Book: “I want to play like Drew Brees” (1 Viewer)

I sure wish SP would have noticed all that when he was watching his highlights and senior bowl. He must have missed it.
Yea maybe Sean was busy watching all the throws he made that are text Book(pun intended) in the Saints offense , most of not all but most of Books runs are called runs . You can see when Book scrambles his first though is always eyes down field looking for a target not run first . He will Run when its open . However he has made alot of great plays when he has started to run but saw a open WR or TE and reset and throw . In fact the kid has a unteachable ability to reset and throw quickly . It is his most Brees like quality to me . On the run the kid has made some pure magic throws .

I think he's too quick to run. I see a lot of times he still has a pocket to throw from but abandons it too quickly. That can be coached.

Going off of his college highlights and the Senior Bowl, nothing impresses me about Book. I see way too much, first progression, maybe second, and then take off running. I don't see much 3 step drop and get rid of the ball. No quick passes at all. Also holds on to the ball too long. Of course he is a rookie and I know the coaches can coach him up but I will just wait and see.
Sorry nothing about his tape says he is one read or even 2 read QB . I have seen him on plenty of game film /highlights Ext . Watch film from 2019 when he had NFL WR and OL on his team he reads the whole field . 2020 The OL was pretty shaky on film and he was throwing to 4 TE most of the time with no real WR threat .Still played very well but had to compensate for lack of weapons and not a great OL .

It can be coached . College game is like that though kid sees 20 yards of grass take it . He has made some great throws on the run when his eyes are down field

Sound like you just described Taysom Hill.

Dont expect him to set the world on fire. Drew's first game was a loss but he entered to replace a injured Doug Flutie. Threw for a little over 200 yards and 1 TD, no INT'S.

The next year he was the starter. Won first 4 games while relying on the San Diego run game. Didn't throw for over 200 yards in any game. 17 TDs and 16 INTs his first year with a 76.9 rating. SD went 8-8 that year.

If the WRs and remaining TE catch the football, Book should be fine
So he is doomed then.

Seriously though, being a rookie in your first start with these receiving options and both starting tackles out....against a team on a 6game win streak.

Good luck kid.
