I am thinking about building one with my shoestring budget. Just looking for some advice.

One of the guys in our dorm had a telescope. We’d come back to the dorm after drinking a wee tad and take it onto the dorm roof. That telescope was never pointed towards the heavens but instead towards the all-girl dorm across the quad

Based on what I have found for mirror blanks (https://firsthanddiscovery.com/8-inch-telescope-mirror-kit.html) you could build a sizeable Newtonian Dobs for well under a thousand. An 8" is something you could be happy with for a very long time.
